The shift down to Level 1 of the lockdown due to Covid-19 by President Cyril Ramaphosa now means that artists have the opportunity to have bigger audiences and hopefully make a better income in a dignified way.
But this all depends on the support that they get from the public, of course.
LOL Productions is hosting a new variety show at the beloved Joseph Stone Auditorium in Athlone on Friday, 5 November.
This is the first time in over a year that the venue will be opening their doors to audiences and there is much excitement on the part of the venue.
The production is titled The Content Creators Festival and brings together some of the most relevant content producers from Cape Town.
One such artist is TikTok sensation Shaakirah from Mitchells Plain who has gone viral for her lekker sêgoedjies, like “Guess who’s back with a brand new act, you know mos”.
This will be Shaakirah’s first time performing on stage for a live audience.
Shameemah Jacobs says: “We at LOL Productions are excited to have both Shaakirah and Saatjie on the show because we recognise the work they put in.
“Shaakirah is very talented and without trying too hard, she is still very entertaining.
“Shaakirah and Saatjie are two of the best light-hearted content creators on TikTok so we had to have them on the show.”
Another lekker surprise on the bill is the reunion of one of Cape Town’s favourite boy bands.
“That Funny Boyband have been through much over the past few years with make ups and breakups but have decided to put their differences aside for a special performance come this Guy Fawkes.
The group known as That Funny Boyband – who is made up of Jamie Barthus, Shakier Chuqy, Alen the Carguard and Waseef Piekaan – gifted Cape Town with hits like Jou Ma en Pa is Ninja Turtles and Senorita Cape Flats Remix that garnered over 1 million YouTube views and of course the festive hit, Is F***l is Festive.
Commenting on the reunion, Jamie said: “I am looking forward to being on stage with the guys after almost a year and I can reveal that we will be putting out new music by next week so people must just keep watching our social pages.”
Alen adds: “Ek het die boy band gemis en almal van ons is creative, soe by die Content Creators Festival sal ons nie net die ou numberties doenie maar oek nuwe content.”
The line-up also includes a mainstream star whose song has gone viral on TikTok.
Ricky vannie Frontline will be coming out to the Joseph Stone to perform his hit song Ricky Oppie Beat.
Another internet star with over 350 000 followers on Facebook and who will soon be seen in a music video with Early B, is Anny.
Shameemah adds: “As a production company, LOL Productions is excited to be back at the Joseph Stone Auditorium because before the pandemic it was our primary work space.
“We did all our shows there and sold it out many times and we just hope that during this level one period we will once again get the support from our community to gift these content creators with a live audience that they deserve.”
The line-up also includes Mitchells Plain’s favourite boy band Melody 5 who shot to internet fame with their hit song Ali Fondalie that has been recreated more than 2000 times on TikTok.
The boy band says they are excited to be at the Joseph Stone, “on a decent stage with lights and good sound”.
“It’s been a hard, long road to level one for artists across the board and this is the time that we the public have to back them and show them that we appreciate the laughs and entertainment we get on the internet, by making our way to the venues to watch them live.
