It’s that time of the year when you must prep the best desserts for festive gatherings, or live in shame for the rest of your life as “the one who made that wet trifle that one time”.
Imagine you invite your aunties and cousins over for a lekker meal en jou cheesecake is pap, jou trifle is waterig and your punch is flavourless?
If your family is anything like mine, you will never live it down.
Traditionally a lekker trifle or cheesecake is inexpensive and simple to make.
This week we are taking festive fare back to our roots with a gorgeous trifle, and introducing an Italian classic called tiramisu that is sure to be a winner on your Christmas menu.
For all those thirsty people, we have included two delicious punch recipes.
They can be made with or without alcohol, by replacing lemonade with vodka or liquor of your choice.
When I was younger, my mom’s sister used to bring out three punch bowls and make what she called a robot with a red, yellow and green punch.
As kids, we were never allowed near it, but I asked my aunty, God rest her soul, how she made it.
Her secret was Rasberry, Cocopina and Cream Soda cooldrink for the colour and soaking either canned fruit with extra chunks of pineapple in rum, gin or brandy overnight.
Just before the guests arrived she would make it and it wouldn’t last long.
Enjoy our delicious treats and have a fabulous festive!
