How many times have you tried out a new recipe, bought a specific ingredient and after that you never used it again?
In my case, that’s what happened to the box of Maizena corn flour which I bought a few months ago.
Whenever I open my koskassie, I look at the yellow and white box and wonder what else I could do with it.
Aside from using Maizena in my cottage pie recipe, I really have no other use for it. Or so I thought.
Did you know you can use it for baking and it’s a great way to thicken your stews?
Whenever I make the mistake of adding too much water to stew, I add a teaspoon or two of Maizena mixed with water and, just like that, my stew is saved.
It’s also a great replacement for flour if you are wheat or grain intolerant, as so many people are these days.
I can’t tell you how many times I snuck in Maizena instead when a recipe asks for flour, and still ended up with a good result.
Of course, the two also work well together, just try out the shortbread recipe below.
And let us not forget the one and only reason most of us, especially young men, love Maizena so much, which has nothing to do with the kitchen.
If it wasn’t for magical Maizena, then many boys would be walking around with worn out skurwe white takkies, but that’s a story for another day.
