Cape Malay Cooking and Fatima Sydow
Ingredients
- 100g butter
- 2-3 cups vermicelli
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 litres milk
- ½ a cup sago, soaked in a cup of water – a full cup will make a thicker boeber.
- 5 cardamom pods
- 5 sticks of cinnamon
Method
Melt the butter in a large pot on medium to high heat.
Now add your cinnamon and cardamom.
Take the vermicelli and crush it into the pot, and allow to brown/ golden brown, stirring it continuously.
Next add the rest of your ingredients (milk, sugar, sago) and stir, bring to the boil and then lower to medium/ low heat.
Cook for 25-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, taking care not to let the pot stick.
