The brunch was invented for people like me - someone who’s either too lazy or too late to have breakfast in the morning.
From an early age my mom drilled the importance of a hearty breakfast into the heads of my little brother and I.
While my brother still has his bakkie pap in the morning before leaving for school, I still have a million reasons for why “I just can’t eat so early”.
A brunch (according to Google) is “a late morning meal eaten instead of breakfast and lunch”.
While more and more restaurants are introducing brunch menus, you can easily make your own at home with whatever leftovers you may have.
Brunches are best enjoyed on a Saturday and Sunday morning, or public holidays, when you don’t have to rush the kids to school or crèche and you don’t have to be out early to skip traffic.
A Saturday morning is when I bring out my inner chef and create a proper meal with whatever I can find in my fridge.
After a few minutes in front of the stove or microwave, it’s great to relax in front of the TV or open the balcony door and look at the birds eyeing my dite.
What I love about brunch is that you can add what you wouldn’t usually have at breakfast, but also don’t want to wait for lunch for, like meats or fish.
You can have both savoury and sweet, fruit and breads, pancakes and whatever takes your fancy.
