After a month of fasting it’s time to eat, drink and have a lekker labarang!
Eid Mubarak to our Muslim readers.
Hopefully your Eid menu is sorted and most of the cooking has already started, or better yet, it’s all done.
While food forms part of Eid celebrations, spending the day with family and loved ones is what the day is really about.
However, nothing brings people together quite like a catch-up over a samoosa or pie’tjie as the host sets the table and presents the guests with a labarang feast that skriks vir niks.
The cold weather certainly lends itself to warm, hearty dishes so add a fancy soup to your menu.
Soup doesn’t have to be boring and bland.
This creamy butternut soup will add a bright colour to your feast and burst with flavour in your mouth.
Of course your spread has to include the regular favourites like lamb, pies and my personal favourite, tongue.
Once the mains are sorted, you can almost get away with anything.
If for some reason you’re still not sure what to serve your guests for Eid, then I will definitely recommend Fatima Sydow and her sister Gadija Sydow Noordien’s new book Cape, Curry and Koesisters.
It’s your one stop cookbook for every occasion, whether it’s Eid or you’re just craving lekker huiskos.
As Muslims around the world celebrate this very special day, may your day be filled with love and your plate filled with lekker kos.
