The festive season is upon us and it’s nearly time to unleash the talents of your inner chef that only come out at special occasions.
Baking is one talent is wish I had, but that doesn’t stop me from trying.
Once I’ve made up my mind about baking even the simplest thing, I follow the recipe down to the last millilitre in the hope that I will get the desired result.
The festive season is a great time to put your baking skills to the test, that way even if your creation is a bit of a flop, no one will really notice want hulle is al klaar dik geeet.
I’ve heard it said many times that baking is a science, and perhaps that’s what prevented me from trying for such a long time.
I am by no means a master baker, but I have fallen in love with ready-to-mix brands.
The recipes are usually very easy to follow and most times you already have what you need in your fridge or kitchen cupboards.
So far I have already tried my hand (and succeeded in) making muffins, cakes, flapjacks and next year for my daughter’s birthday, I will attempt to make my first rainbow cake.
If I get this right, I may be tempted to quit my day job and become a master baker - or not.
Christmas is a few weeks away and once the holiday starts, that’s also when you’ll be getting more visitors. Instead of running to the corner shop to get a pakkie biscuits, why not make your own festive treats?
