Ingredients
-
3 large onions, sliced into rings
-
¾ cup cake flour
-
2 cups self raising flour
-
¾ cup cornflour
-
1 tbsp baking powder
-
½ tsp salt
-
1-1½ cups beer
-
Oil, for deep-frying
-
Tomato sauce
Method
Dust the onion rings with cake flour and set aside.
Sift the dry ingredients together into a large mixing bowl.
Slowly whisk the beer until just combined.
Dip each onion ring into the batter, turning the rings to coat completely.
Add the onions to hot oil one by one and fry for 5-8 minutes until golden brown on both sides and cooked through.
Drain on a sheet of paper towel and serve with tomato sauce.
Tip:
Adding beer to your batter gives you a lighter, crispier and more flavourful result.
