In just over a week my Muslim friends, colleagues and family will be celebrating Eid.
Eid al-Fitr is a celebration to mark the end of the month of Ramadaan, during which Muslims around the world would fast during the day and only eat at night until just before sunrise.
I would hope that by now your Labarang outfit is sorted, leaving you with time to work on your menu.
South Indian Seafood Curry
It’s cold, so warm, hearty meals are a given.
One thing I know is that seafood is always a winner for any special occasion, so at least one of the dishes on your menu has to come from under the sea.
Savoury Steak Pie
In the past I have been to families on Eid day and most times I’d be offered a seafood paella, breyani or curry, all of them very tasty and suitable for the occasion.
Salwaa’s Leg Of Lamb
Considering the weather, I also can’t help but think of a lekker creamy butter chicken or roti and curry. And what is Eid dan nou sonder ’n lekker gebraaide boud?
However, there’s no need to go all out and be fancy, with the price of alles shooting through the roof, feel free to add a lekker stew to your lunch this Labarang.
Chicken and Mushroom quesadilla
If you’re planning to lunch with friends and family, why not have a potluck?
I’m a big fan, and this way everybody gets to make their own favourite dish which is then shared among the guests.
I can’t think of a better way to mark the end of the holiest time on the Muslim calendar than a celebration of good food and family.
