It’s tough at the top and Super League A leaders Durbell found that out this past weekend.
When you are leading a pack you will be hunted and they were behoorlik hunted down by defending champions Maties in Stellenbosch last weekend.
Still in first place on the Super League A log, Durbell were smashed 82-5 by Maties at the Danie Craven Stadium in a match that will no doubt have hurt the confidence in the Durbanville camp.
The Maroon Machine was simply unstoppable on their way to a 12 tries to one victory.
Durbell now have a bye this week to get over the shock of being run into the ground by the defending champions.
But for Belhar Rugby Club, who will face Maties at Accordian Park on Saturday, this match sent out a strong warning.
Having already lost 80-3 to a strong False Bay side earlier in the campaign, Belhar will have to be at their best defensively if they want to keep the score to a minimum on Saturday.
The Bay, meanwhile, travel to Parow where they will look to continue their good run after beating Tygerberg 42-12 last Saturday.
Try-machine Danie Roux again dotted down twice as the Tiere had no answer to False Bay’s attack.
NTK will hope to do better than their neighbours, Tygerberg, after a strong start to the season.
But the wheels are gradually coming off in Parow as they suffered another defeat last weekend.
SK Walmers, who blows hot and cold this year, got one over their coach Wilbur Kraak’s former team last weekend, with a surprising 37-32 win at the Track.
This weekend Walmers have another opportunity to bag some log points when they host the struggling UWC.
Currently second from bottom on the log after seven games, UWC were beaten at home by UniMil last weekend.
The team from Milnerton ran in six tries in the encounter, with Jodi Dennis dotting down twice.
All first team games kick off at 4pm
