If there’s still any doubt about how Jacob Zuma used the public kitty as his personal litigation slush fund, then Friday’s Pretoria High Court judgement should put those doubts to rest.
Zuma has so many judgements for costs against him now, that it’s difficult to keep track.
Safe to say, it’s going to cost him millions one way or another.
The current estimate is close to R50 million; money that we as taxpayers were going to pay to lawyers for court proceedings he started.
As I’ve asked before, how does the president not have the best legal advice available to him that would avoid such legal embarrassments?
Never one to give up easily, I’m pretty sure he is going to appeal some of these judgements.
But he’s going to have to judge such court challenges very carefully now, because if his appeals fail, then it’s going to mean even more legal fees.
But assuming all the accusations and suspicions are true, then Zuma has more than enough money to take care of it.
The problem with these judgements are that money “stolen” from the public purse now gets paid to the lawyers who proved the case.
None of it ever comes back to us.
