Not that I am surprised, but Donald Trump has again shown how callous and cruel he is and how incompatible capitalism and compassion is.
He has made no secret of his disdain for journalists who criticise him and liberal media as a whole.
I’m not shocked at his reaction to the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who died inside the Saudi embassy in Turkey.
After much denials and cover stories, the Saudis finally admitted that it was premeditated murder.
As a fervent critic of Saudi Prince Mohammed bin Salman and the Saudi royal family, it’s suspected he was tortured and dismembered.
At the time of his death, Khashoggi was an American resident writing for the Washington Post.
He had also started a political party to challenge the royal family’s stronghold in Saudi Arabia.
Trump, who is in the middle of a multi-million dollar arms deal with the Saudis, initially bluntly refused to condemn the death and plainly said he’s not prepared to jeopardise the job-creating deal over the death of just one man.
And that is the statement that should repulse his supporters and all human beings for that matter.
Instead, some of Trump’s political party members have started quietly discrediting Khashoggi to make sure he doesn’t come off as heroic as the media has been portraying him.
It has become a typical hallmark of Trump to blame victims.
In any case, his predecessor Barrack Obama is finally on the campaign trail and speaking out against the brutishness of Trump.
While I don’t often lay any weight to pop stars who make political statements, I do believe next week’s American mid-term elections are going to be a battle between Taylor Swift and Kanye West fans again.
Remember that time when he jumped on stage and pretty much grabbed her VMA award from her because he believed it should’ve gone to Beyoncé?
Kanye has made no two ways about the fact that he is in Trump’s corner all the way.
He even recently visited Trump in the White House, pretty much to stroke the man’s huge ego further.
But now Swift has made her political feelings known, and of course, she sits on the opposite side of the fence.
Both pop culture icons have huge fan bases; fans who will buy polished turds if their idols do.
This time, they will have to make a decision that will impact the future of an unpolished turd and pop culture disaster who values only his own life, money and opinion.
