Well, the festive season is finally here and you are either already on holiday, or about to take yours this week.
It is one week away from Christmas and then we head into a brand new decade.
It’s scary how fast time flies and how we can miss out on crucial things if we don’t pay attention.
When I was growing up, 2020 didn’t even seem possible.
I remember a TV show called Buck Rodgers that was set in the distant future, but the opening voice-over said “In the year 1987,” which I couldn’t even imagine back then.
And yet here we are, well beyond 1987 and in the same future we used to dream about when we were kids.
I’m disappointed that we’re not zipping around in flying cars yet, or being beamed around by a robot named Scotty, or taking holidays on the moon, but it is still significantly more advanced than we imagined.
And I’m sure we can’t even begin to imagine all the amazing technological things that lie ahead in this new decade.
By 2029, we could have found a cure for cancer, have a colony on Mars and be laughing at how antiquated smartphones are.
My point is, time drags on very slowly for kids, because they have little to no responsibilities.
For us adults, time zooms by at hyper speed, because we have so much to do.
The trick, therefore, is to slow down and reduce the responsibilities in your life.
It’s just another way of saying: Slow down and smell the roses.
That’s what I plan to do in this new decade; focus a bit more on the few things that matter and get rid of the clutter in my head.
Hopefully the years won’t fly by so fast after I do that.
