I have previously written about the shallow beauty industry and the power it has over the minds of our youth.
And every now and again the industry sets an awesome example worth writing about.
This time it comes from a few clothing brands, most notable the British outlets Boohoo, MissGuided and ASOS.
They have recently used photos of gorgeous models, without airbrushing out their stretch marks and cellulite.
It’s such a stupid thing to be talking about, but yet so very important, in an age where young girls are still exposed to impossible standards of beauty.
And of course young boys are also given ridiculous expectations to have in their own relationships.
I notice that Kylie Jenner (whom I don’t really care much for) and Chrissy Teigen (who has endeared herself to me over the years) have both posted pictures of their bodily imperfections on social media.
We must never underestimate the effect perfectly photoshopped images have on our youth. A young girl needs to see stretch marks in fashion magazines and on the celebrities she idolises, otherwise she’ll view her own as flaws to be embarrassed about.
And young men need to understand that stretch marks are beauty spots of a different sort. The kind that shows we are all just human and that nobody is perfect.
So next time you see a model with flawless skin on her bum, thighs or tummy, just laugh it off and maybe write to the magazine telling them to stop doing that.
