With the switching on of the festive lights of Sunday, the silly season is finally here.
It was the first year in a decade that I wasn’t in town for the occasion, but I saw several videos on social media and it looked awesome.
This has traditionally become the weekend from where we start counting down the days to the new year; and there are now just 28 of them left, or four more Tuesdays.
It seems like we waited longer than usual for December to get here.
But the schoolkids are finally practically on holiday and salaries departments are calculating the final pay cheques of the year.
We’re all pulling that last, long stretch at work, into the summer holidays and the weather’s giving a taste of things to come.
While this is obviously a very exciting time of the year, it is also one of the most dangerous for us Capetonians, so please give you and your family’s safety serious consideration.
Especially the kids who are home while you spend a few more days working.
Please make sure they are cared for as best as you can.
