It's Christmas Eve and I would like to wish all of you who celebrate Christmas the joys of the festive season, the blessing of fellowship and a memorable celebration on Wednesday.
It’s hard to believe that it has been five Christmases that I have been wishing you compliments of this season.
But as always, I must caution you about your safety during this time.
I cannot stress enough the importance of keeping a close eye on your loved ones, especially the children.
Even when they are being cared for by trusted relatives, keep an eye on them.
And definitely make sure that you remain sober when you drive.
But equally important, don’t get into a car with a drunk driver, no matter how confident they are.
They call this the “silly season” for good reason, because we tend to set aside our ability to reason during this time.
Don’t get scammed; remember if it sounds like it’s too good to be true, then it probably is.
The end of January is a long, long way off, so spend wisely over the next few weeks.
While I know what to expect every year, there’s always a familiar feeling of sentimentality that catches me a little off guard.
So I pay a little closer attention to the people and events around me and I feel a little overcome by a sense of gratitude and generosity.
So just like I’ve been doing for the past five years of writing this page, I ask again that you spare a thought for those who have very little to nothing this time of the year.
I know you want to keep the leftovers for the beach on Boxing Day, but please consider making a spare food parcel for someone less fortunate.
I saw a very thought-provoking meme the other day, that said: “The most selfish thing you can do in this world is help someone else.”
The reason is the rewarding feeling that you get from that act of kindness.
So, my wish for you this year is that you are blessed so much that it overflows and benefits others. After all, we make a living by what we get, but a life by what we give. Have a happy festive season.
