I’m very happy to note that my childhood home of Bonteheuwel is getting some major Law Enforcement attention.
Things were really going downhill with crime having spiralled out of control.
There also seems to be a standoff between political factions, which often spills over onto social media.
Worse of all, it seems to have a negative effect on service delivery in the area.
I don’t really care about the politics of the people on either side of the arguments, and I don’t think the majority of Bonteheuwel residents do either.
Just like everywhere else, people just really want to see progress, have the social ills addressed and crime eradicated.
Anybody seen to be a hurdle to any of those aims, should be disregarded and challenged.
As of last week, there are 100 new Law Enforcement officers dedicated to Bonteheuwel.
On the face of it, this is wonderful news, because every little bit helps.
But I can’t stress enough how this can only work if all residents play their part.
Of course criminals are now going to look for new, innovative ways to go about committing their crimes and avoid being caught.
But I urge you to not waste this chance to clean up Bontas.
The Neighbourhood Safety Team will need you to be their eyes and ears.
