I was in Joburg over the weekend to attend a prize-giving for high school kids who have been participating in an online entrepreneurship competition.
It struck me how terribly smart and mature these kids are.
At one stage I was having business and innovation conversations with 17-year-olds.
It made me wonder what I was doing with my life when I was their age.
But it also made me realise that, given the right tools and support, our kids are standing ready to take over and make all our futures very bright.
I don’t think we should be blaming the lack of any longer.
We should use what we have and realise the digital world gives everyone equal access to opportunities, no matter where they are from.
So I want you to show this article to all the high school kids and teachers you know.
Make a note of what I’m about to say, because next year, I want as many Cape Flats kids as possible to enter this competition.
There is a lot of dormant talent in our communities and we need to expose them to platforms like these.
In this competition, kids get to show off their business and entrepreneurship abilities against their peers from across the country.
It’s free to enter and besides the wonderful experience, there are some excellent prizes up for grabs, like a trip to the USA and R25 000.
Simply Google the Allan Gray Entrepreneurship Challenge and save the information.
And make sure to let me know next year if a school kid you know has entered.
