On Wednesday afternoon, Ajax Cape Town did the impossible when two of their players scored with the same shot.
Yes. You read that right.
In their 2-1 NFD victory over Real Kings, the 58th-minute second goal in Durban was announced on Ajax’s Twitter feed as: “We humble the crowd as they have gone dead after a mix up in the box, not sure who will be given the goal as [Thabo] Mosadi and [Thendo] Mukumela both took the shot!”
Wow. Amazing right?
No I wasn’t there to see it and no one I know could give me footage of the goal.
All I could use was my imagination. And yes, for all the 90s soccer fans out there I was imagining Kickers.
If you don’t remember that TV show, it was a Japanese anime oorgeklank on TV4 way back when. It was sort of like the Strikas cartoon and comics here in Mzansi.
In Japan, it was massive and named Captain Tsubasa. And the players won’t do some amazing things with the ball.
They even had a skill called the twin shot, when two players would striker the ball at the same time to give it double the power.
And on top of that, the ball would swerve so hard that it would phase into three different balls. David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo.
It’s amazing stuff. In fact, they launched a revamp of the series in France last year and a new PS4 video game this month. I’m not the only fan of Captain Tsubasa. Fifa and Adidas are too.
For last month’s Club World Cup, Adidas used graphics inspired by the show on the official match ball.
Anyway, back to scoring goals in real life and what a bummer for Ezri Konsa after his maiden Premier League was taken away from him.
Imagine scoring your first ever league in the last minute to win the match 2-1.
Now imagine having it credited to your teammate who somehow got a touch on it before it goes into the net.
Heartbreaking.
