Former president Jacob Zuma’s estranged wife Tobeka Madiba has dragged him to court over papgeld.
Zuma appeared in the Durban Magistrates' Court, where Tobeka is demanding a monthly maintenance fee of R14 000 for their daughter, 14.
But Zuma’s lawyer, Eric Mabuza, says his client is a responsible father taking care of the child.
The matter was not settled yesterday.
After the hearing, which was held in-camera, Zuma’s legal representatives - Advocate Nqaba Buthelezi and Advocate Rudolph Mbalula refused to comment.
Tobeka also did not comment as she was whisked away by members of the presidential protection unit.
The maintenance prosecutor Thulasizwe Mahlobo said he could not reveal details of the maintenance matter only that it was a mediation.
“It was just a mediation process that was happening to try and find amicable ground I was facilitating,” Mahlobo said.
“Both sides are still consulting with their parties, then they will come back to me. Then we will finalise everything with them and what actually transpired at the meeting.”
Tobeka is one of Zuma’s three wives and reportedly left her marital home six months ago.
Sources told Independent Media the feud started after Zuma’s sim cards carrying “sensitive information” went missing.
