The men convicted of killing Kuils River mom, Zarah Hector, will have to wait TWO months before hearing how long they will be spending in the tjoekie.
Sentencing proceedings were postponed on Monday in the Western Cape High Court for Renaldo van Rooyen, from Sarepta, and Tawfeeq Ebrahim, from Tuscany Glen.
The men, who were friends of Zarah, were last week found guilty of murdering her in Van Rooyen’s garage in March 2016.
Zarah, 33, had been missing for 10 days before her decomposing body was found dumped on a farm in Klein Drakenstein. She had been bludgeoned to death with a hammer, apparently over drug money.
On Monday, the accused’s lawyers applied for a postponement as they were still waiting for certain reports.
Van Rooyen’s attorney, Advocate Peter Burgess, submitted: “The purpose of the reports is to outline the circumstances of my client. The reports obtained will be conducted by trained, objective professionals who can evaluate the social circumstances of the accused.”
However, State Prosecutor Maria Marshall objected: “The State is not happy with this. Who better than the accused to tell the court about their circumstances?”
Judge Lister Nuku also granted State witness Quinton Pheira indemnity against prosecution.
Pheira had testified the accused tried to sell him a BMW Z3, the car they had stolen from Zarah.
The case was postponed to 2 July.
