Eikendal Pharmacy in Kraaifontein was forced to close for the day on Tuesday following a shooting incident during an armed robbery on Monday at about 5pm.
The owner of the pharmacy was not present when four unidentified men barged in and held the staff at gunpoint.
They shot one employee in the leg before fleeing the scene with money.
“I do not have all the information at the moment and everyone is still traumatised, we are closed and only opening tomorrow,” the owner, who declined to be named, told the Daily Voice.
Police spokesperson Colonel Andrè Traut says a case of armed business robbery is under investigation by Kraaifontein police.
“The suspects fled with cash and are yet to be arrested. The complainant sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and was treated for his injury,” says Traut.
He did not say what led to the shooting.
According to a Daily Voice source, the suspects fled in a white Ford Bantam bakkie.
She says the vehicle could be linked to a number of similar incidents in the area.
“My teammate was at the pharmacy when it happened but this bakkie was involved in many robberies in our area lately.
“Last week it was the fisheries in Belmont Park and a metal scrapyard.”
She says two weeks ago the same bakkie was suspected to be involved in a robbery of two supermarkets.
“It’s a white Ford Bantam bakkie with black males unfortunately nobody was able to get registration details,” adds the source.
