OPERATING: In2Food OPERATING: In2Food
One of the biggest suppliers of prepared food for Woolworths, In2Food, was raided by the police on Saturday night in Strand for allegedly violating lockdown.
The food manufacturing plant is allegedly continuing to operate after it was announced that only raw food can be sold.
Sources said police took pictures inside the plant and were asking for management who were not present at the time.
Employees at the plant who spoke to the Daily Voice say they were too scared to question why they were still working.
“No one dares stand against the management here, many have tried and they all lost their jobs. We have seen on the news that we should have closed, but we are asked to report for duty,” on worker says.
Health inspectors were also part of the unannounced visit.
In2Food has factories across the country and one in Australia.
Eswhin Booysen, the company’s chief human resources officer, on Monday confirmed that police visited their Strand branch, but says they will remain open.
“We have a valid certificate for all our operations. We are in food production hence we are operating,” Booysen says.
“There was a visit around 10pm on Saturday by the police and Health (inspectors).
“We have had numerous inspections across our factories. We are in compliance with government regulations.”
“All other factories are operating, we do not sell hot food. We are manufacturing processed food and package it.”
The DA is currently challenging regulations that bans the production or sale of cooked food, saying there is nothing in the amended Coronavirus (Covid-19) regulations that prohibits it.
