INVASION: Cops probe a Nyanga shooting
A woman has been murdered and her alleged killer shot by cops after he apparently wounded a police officer during a morning of mayhem.

Two police officers visited the scene in Bala Street in Lusaka, Nyanga, on Saturday.

Police spokesperson, Captain Ian Bennett, says the 24-year-old woman and her boyfriend were asleep when three unidentified men forced the front door open.

Bennett says the boyfriend tried to chase the armed men away: “The couple was held at gunpoint as their home was searched for valuables.

“The boyfriend tried forcing them out and when they fired shots at him, he ran back into the house.”

Bennett says as the skollies ran away, they fired several shots and a bullet hit the woman who was still lying in bed, killing her.

A case of murder has been opened for investigation, he says.

Bennett explains the two officers, who arrived at the murder scene, spotted two of the attackers.

The suspects opened fire and one of the cops was wounded in the neck and shoulder.

“As the suspicious males stopped to be searched, the one male stepped back and fired several shots at the uniformed members, hitting one of the constables in the neck and shoulder,” he says.

The other police officer took out his firearm and shot at the suspect to protect him and his colleague, and killed the man.

A firearm with the serial number filed off was recovered in the possession of the dead suspect.

The other suspect fled the scene and is yet to be arrested.

The injured constable is in a stable condition in hospital.
