Hagar Kruger from Voorbrug blames Delft Day Hospital for the loss of her baby when she allegedly got chased away after getting labor pains at 7 months pregnant.

Hagar, 33 says that she laid a complaint against Delft Day Hospital but three years later nothing has been done and she has received no communication.

She says that on 16 March 2022, she was seven months pregnant with her baby girl who she was going to name Nicole Kruger but when she went to her nearest day hospital for assistance she got turned away.

Hagar explains: “It was on a Wednesday morning when I started getting sterk pyne at home. I was under Karl Bremer Hospital but walked to Delft Day Hospital for a checkup to find out what was wrong because it was closer to me.

"When I arrived I was told by the nurse in the maternity ward that it is not their problem and I should find my own way to Karl Bremer Hospital.

"I said the pain was too much and I won’t make it back home, I asked if they couldn't get me an ambulance to Karl Bremner Hospital and was told no, it is not their problem while she was sitting on her phone.”

Hagar said that she was forced to walk back home as Delft Hospital did not want to assist her while she was bleeding out and phoned the ambulance which only arrived in the afternoon around 4pm.

She says: “By the time the ambulance came I was covered in blood and I knew my baby didn’t make it.

"They transported me to Karl Bremer Hospital who confirmed the child was dead and transferred me to Tygerberg Hospital.

"When I arrived at Tygerberg Hospital I passed out because of the blood loss and woke up the night with a deceased baby next to me. I thought I was in the maternity ward but was in fact in Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

"I don’t know how the baby was removed from me and three days later I was sent home with no knowledge of what happened.”

Hagar said that she fell pregnant again but miscarried three months later.

She said that she has lodged a complaint against Delft Day Hospital but has since received no feedback.

She adds: “My question is why was I turned away from a hospital that is supposed to help me, where was I supposed to give birth, on the street. I still have everything about my baby [Nicole] including her bed and clothes, I can’t get myself to get rid of her things.”

In response, Delft Community Health Centre (CHC) management confirmed that the facility manager met with Hagar when her initial complaint was made.

It adds that: “Counselling services were offered to Ms Kruger previously by the facility and the offer still remains.”

But Hagar insists that no counselling was offered, otherwise she would have taken it.

She said that she met with the manager in 2022 and had to show who the nurse was who turned her away. They found the nurse who turned her away, but nothing has been done and since she hasn’t heard back since.
