Vigilantes living in Blikkiesdorp say they are on a ‘cleansing mission’ to rid the community of gangsters and
rapists with one skollie already killed and several others tortured.
Residents say for the past two weeks, Blikkiesdorp has been volatile after a woman was raped in front of her two-year-old child.
The violence began after black community members demanded The Gifted gang to leave the area.
Blikkiesdorp is home to about
10 000 people who have been waiting for homes since 2007.
Members of the gang, known for robbing people and setting shacks alight, have been stabbed, beaten and burnt with hot coals, while some have had their fingers chopped off.
One skollie was killed and 12 others escaped death.
Cops have confirmed three cases of attempted murder and said the area is being monitored.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana says: “For the period of two weeks there was one murder of an unidentified male and three attempted murders of men aged between 14, 32 and 33 years old in Blikkiesdorp. No arrests have been made.”
On Sunday about 10.30pm, four shacks believed to be those of Gifted skollies were set alight.
A vigilante, who spoke to the Daily Voice on condition of anonymity, says they want the public to know the mob justice attacks are not acts of racism.
The man says gatvol black residens are taking the law into their own hands because they are just tired of crime.
“We want to be equal, they want to rule,” he explains.
“We are taking Blikkiesdorp back and this is not a race thing of Africans killing coloureds.”
Another resident adds: “This all started after a Gifted raped a woman in front of her child.
“Some of their gang members’ fingers were taken off and they were burnt with coals.”
