A suspected hijacker, who tried to dodge cops, was cornered in Rondebosch East on Monday after a shootout with police.
According to a source, the skelm ended up flipping the stolen BMW in Kromboom Road and got trapped inside before being arrested by police.
“The car was stolen during a hijacking in Diep River about a month ago. This guy was driving the stolen vehicle with the original plates and tripped the Licence Plate Recognition (LPR) cameras,” says the source.
“The Flying Squad, K9, Metro Police and a whole lot of cops were alerted and he was followed. When he got to the intersection at Jan Smuts [Drive] and Kromboom Road, he opened fire on the cops and they shot back at him.”

The source says the brazen skelm reversed the car at a high speed trying in his bid to escape, but hit a kerb and the car overturned.
“The car flipped and he was stuck inside. The cops dragged him out and arrested him.
“A bystander was hit in the shooting, but the bullet just grazed his arm and he was treated on the scene.”
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel André Traut, confirms the incident and says the 30-year-old man is set to appear in court soon.
“A 30-year-old suspect was arrested in Kromboom Road, Lansdowne, by members of the Flying Squad for being in possession of a hijacked vehicle,” he says.
“Officers on patrol spotted the BMW which was hijacked in Diep River last month and blocked the vehicle.
“In an attempt to flee, the hijacked vehicle collided with another vehicle and overturned.
“The suspect is due to make a court appearance in Wynberg Magistrates’ Court once he has been charged.”
