Kraaifontein detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding a double murder of two Somalian shop owners who were shot and killed inside their tuck shop in Wallacedene.

The shooting took place on 23 April and is believed to be linked to extortion.

The two Somalians aged 18 and 20 years were fatally wounded.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi confirmed the shooting and said Kraaifontein police are investigating two counts of murder.

Swartbooi explains: “The circumstances surrounding this incident are still under investigation.

"Kraaifontein detectives are hard at work pursuing leads in a bid to apprehend those responsible for the death of two males in Kalako Street in Wallacedene on Wednesday 23 April 2025.

"Reports suggested that four unknown gunmen approached a local spaza shop and opened fire at the occupants at about 9.45pm. One male sustained fatal injuries at the premises whilst another was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Both males aged 18 and 20 were declared deceased by the medical personnel.

"The unknown suspects fled the scene and they are yet to be arrested. The motive for this attack is believed to be extortion related. Kraaifontein police are investigating two counts of murder.”

Video footage was posted online by crime group Fight Against Crime and shows the two Somalians in the shop with one assisting a customer dressed in a white hoodie by the fenced gate.

The video shows the one Somalian giving the customer his items and immediately another man appears with what seems to appear as a shotgun and fires multiple shots at the Somalians through the gate.

The suspect continues to shoot at the Somalian who is lying down on the floor as blood leaves his body before running away.
