GUN violence continues to ring in Mitchells Plain as police are investigating two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.
This follows two separate shooting incidents on Sunday afternoon where two men were shot and killed minutes apart and a 13-year-old shot and wounded.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said Mitchells Plain police are investigating a murder case following a shooting incident on Sunday 29 June 2025 at around 2:30pm in Metropolitan and Trampoline Street, Beacon Valley, where a 34-year old-man was shot and fatally wounded.
Twigg reported: “According to reports, police members responded to a complaint of a shooting incident at the mentioned address where upon arrival they saw the victim laying on the ground with gunshot wounds sustained to his body. The victim was declared deceased at the scene by the medical personnel.
“The unknown suspect/s who fled the scene are yet to be arrested.”
Just minutes later another shooting took place in Portlands, Mitchells Plain, where a 26-year-old man was shot and fatally wounded at a play park resulting in a 13-year-old boy being wounded and rushed for medical treatment.
Sergeant Twigg said that Mitchell’s Plain detectives are investigating a murder and an attempted murder case following this shooting incident on Sunday around 2.45pm in Molopo Street, Portlands.
Twigg reported: “Mitchells Plain police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a shooting incident on Sunday afternoon, 29 June 2025, at about 14:45, in Molopo Street, Portlands, Mitchell’s Plain, in which a 26 year old male was shot and fatally wounded and 13 year old male shot and wounded.
“Police members attended to the crime scene where they found the victims with gunshot wounds to their bodies. The 26-year-old victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel, while the other victim was taken to a medical facility for medical treatment.
“The suspect/s fled the scene and are yet to be arrested. The motive for the attack is yet to be established.”
