Residents in Delft say they are gatvol of poor service delivery at the Delft Day Hospital.
Yesterday morning, a vrag mense held a peaceful picket outside the medical facility, where they handed over a memorandum.
Residents say the poor service at Delft Day Hospital has been going on for years with no change despite numerous complaints and protests.
They are now giving the day hospital two weeks to respond and changes to take effect.
Kwaad ouma Shirley de Bruin said that one of the klagte from the community is mothers being turned away with their sick babies which have resulted in deaths.
She says: “We have decided that genoeg is genoeg because all lives matter. We are not going to stop until there is better service delivery to our community in Delft.
"People need to stand in long ques outside the gate in the rain, cold and heat of the sun. The place is morsig and the manner in which the nurses speak to our people is wrong, they speak disrespectfully to our people.
"There is no health committee. If they are going to choose a health committee, we want public participation so that the community can know who to turn to when service delivery is bad.
"They must treat our community members like people and not animals.”
Residents also say the hospitaal is understaffed, with only two doctors, and cannot cope with the influx of people. Patient files disappear, the pharmacy closes at 3pm but the facility is open 24 hour and mense are being weg gewys.
The residents added that the nursing staff and security are baie onbeskof.
Another resident, Inshaaf Jaffer, said that she had a terrible experience at Delft Day Hospital with her whole family.
She shares: “My son was bitten by a dog and they had him sit here for three days. When I asked the sister at trauma why my son is still sitting, she adopted an attitude - including the security. I was told ek en my kind moet net wag.
"Eventually my child just got an injection and was told there is no need for medication.
"I had to perform for a medical certificate and medication, it was a terrible experience but it was not the first time.”
The Daily Voice reached out to the Health Department about the allegations.
Spokesperson Megan Davids says: “On the 14th May 2025, the Delft Community Health Centre received a memorandum delivered by members of the Delft community regarding their concerns of service delivery at our facility.
"Our management team will review the issues our community raised and will respond to the community accordingly within the stipulated timeframe. We take these concerns seriously and appreciate the community's willingness to voice their expectations.”
