Two suspects appeared in the Bellville Magistrates court on Monday after they were gevang in two separate incidents by Ravensmead cops for the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said members were busy with high-visibility crime prevention initiatives on 8 May when they responded to information about an identified man allegedly in possession of a firearm.
He added: “The members noticed a man who fitted the description in Parkdene Street, searched him and recovered a pistol with ammunition found in his possession. They detained the man for the unlawful possession of a firearm with ammunition.”
“The members returned to the same area in Parkdene Street later in a bid to conduct stop and search operations.
“Whilst executing duties they saw a man running away from them in an attempt to evade them, but the members gave chase and apprehended the man who was searched.”
Members found a revolver with ammunition in his possession which led to him facing charges for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The Daily Voice asked Ravensmead Community Policing Forum (CPF) spokesperson Lucian Davids for comment, however they said that they would release a formal statement on the incident at a later stage.
