Two dead bodies with gunshot wounds to their heads have been found over the weekend along the notorious dumping ground near Baden Powel Drive in Strandfontein.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Malcolm Pojie said that Strandfontein SAPS registered two counts of murder, following the discovery of the bodies of two unknown men in the bushes off the road on Friday, 2 May 2025 at approximately 11.40am.

Pojie reports: “Both men in their early thirties succumbed to gunshot wounds to the head. The discovery was made by a passer-by who flagged down a patrol van and pointed out the location.

"The motive is yet to be established. No arrests have been made."

Baden Powell Drive is a hotspot for bodies being dumped. Earlier this year, the Daily Voice reported the discovery of two bodies on two separate occasions on the Macassar end of Baden Powell Drive.

Public Relations Officer for the Sub District Community Policing Forum (CPF), Niklaas Thysen said that they are calling on the City of Cape Town to upgrade the area with more cameras to help nab those responsible for dumping the bodies.

He says: “The CPF wants to highlight the danger along Baden Powell Road and along the bushes. We want to urge the municipalities to upgrade these areas with more lighting and cameras alongside the identified hotspot areas and that residents should be more alert at day and night time.”

When Daily Voice reached out to the City of Cape Town to find out what the City is doing regarding the hotspot, Nicolene Heynes, spokesperson for the Metro Police Department said there are cameras along the busy route and they are assisting SAPS with footage linked to murders and attempted murders.

Heynes explains: “There are cameras along Baden Powell Drive; however, not all of the road is covered as street lights are required to ensure the cameras function optimally.

"Generally speaking, the City makes CCTV footage available to the South African Police Service. In April (last month) the City assisted SAPS with all their enquiries linked to cameras and as such we assisted SAPS with 35 cases which included positive footage linked to six murders and attempted murders.”
