Athlone police are investigating a business robbery after a shop in Rylands was robbed at gunpoint on Wednesday morning.
The incident took place just after 10am in Hazel Road and footage shows two armed men forcing three men inside the shop believed to be the shop owners to the floor.
One of the gunmen can be seen putting his gun on a red chair while packing up a computer and other belongings in a black bag. The other robber is seen searching the three men.
The robbers then becomes aggressive with one of the victims and points the gun at him before shoving his face.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed the incident and said the gunmen left with an undisclosed amount of cash and have yet to be arrested.
Twigg reports: “Athlone police registered a business robbery case for investigation following a robbery at a business premises in Hazel Road, Rylands on Wednesday, 21 May 2025."
"According to reports, two unknown suspects entered the premises, pointed the victim with a firearm and robbed it of an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing the scene.
The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation and no arrests have been made yet.”

According to a crime fighter who does not want to disclose his name, businesses in Athlone especially the Gatesville and Rylands areas are at the forefront of being targeted by robbers.
He said that this is not the first instance, and they are unsure if it is the same suspects or a syndicate.
