A Manenberg man will appear in court on Monday morning for the murder of a Surrey Estate oupa who was robbed and viciously attacked in his home.
A week after the house robbery on Peter Goliath Senior, 70, and his wife Elizabeth, 66, Manenberg police have hunted down one of the men allegedly involved in the attack on the elderly couple who were tied up and brutally beaten.
The horrific attack occurred at the couple’s Orion Road home about 4am on 25 August after two skelms forced a
window open to gain access.
The oupa, who suffered from epilepsy, died defending his wife who survived the ordeal by playing dead.
The skelms made off with cellphones, a flat screen TV and two watches.
Manenberg Police Station commander, Brigadier Enolium Joseph, says detectives of the Serious Violent Crimes unit have been working all hours to catch the suspects.
He says officers have managed to recover the TV and a cellphone, which were sold in Manenberg, and arrested a man in Irvine Street for the oupa’s murder.

“The second suspect is currently being sought. The 38-year-old male has been charged with murder and house robbery with the intention to commit a crime,” says Joseph.
“He will appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court [Monday]. The team has
prioritised this case and worked around the clock to trace the suspect.
“They worked extra hours with no remuneration to make an arrest and I am proud of the dedication they have shown.”
On Saturday, mourners filled the Hillsong Church in Century City to say their final farewells to the beloved oupa, who has been cremated.
A 58-year-old neighbour, who asked not to be named, says the community is still in shock but happy that one of the skelms has been caught.
“The church was full of people who came to say goodbye. Most of the neighbours attended his funeral. We are very happy that someone has been arrested and we are hoping that justice will be served for Peter.”
