He adds: “Earlier [Saturday] afternoon a person in a wheelchair was shot and killed during gang gunfire in Eastridge in the Cape Flats.

"For April 2025 there were over 90 gang related murders and over 110 gang related attempted murders. Over 200 people injured or killed in gang violence on the Cape Flats in the above mentioned time period. Warzone.”

Chairperson of the Mitchells Plain Community Police Forum, Norman Jantjies adds: "The Mitchells Plain CPF can confirm that a wheelchair-bound man was killed in a shooting incident in Eastridge yesterday.

"At this stage we cannot confirm that the victim was intentionally shot or whether it was in a crossfire.

"According to some neighbours, the victim was apparently a known member of a gang. He was also a victim in a previous shooting incident which led to him becoming wheelchair-bound.

"The CPF is of the opinion that more should be done to curb gang violence.

"We express our condolences to the family + appeal to the community to share any relevant information with SAPS. We also believe that another person was shot and killed in Beacon Valley yesterday."
