Muizenberg police are investigating a mystery after the body of an unidentified woman was found on Thursday morning at Kalk Bay Harbour.
The body was discovered by a passer-by around 8am at the green light house at the end of the pier
Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Malcolm Pojie confirmed the incident and said that an inquest docket has been opened for investigation.
He reports: “Muizenberg SAPS opened an inquest docket for investigation surrounding the circumstances of a body of a female in her early thirties that was discovered on the beach at Kalk Bay near the lighthouse.
"The discovery was made by a passer-by [on Thursday] morning at about 8.20am who reported it to the police. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the possible cause of death."
Wayne Turner, Communications Officer for the Muizenberg Community Policing Forum, said that at the moment there are not much information surrounding the circumstances of the deceased or who she is as Saps are currently investigating the matter.
Turner says: “We can confirm that SAPS was made aware of the body of a deceased person in Kalk Bay Harbour.
"The incident is currently under police investigation and the cause of death, identity of the person and circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be released. Further details will be disclosed once the initial investigation by SAPS has been completed.”
