A Manenberg woman has come forward claiming she is not the mastermind behind the robbery at an elderly couple’s Surrey Estate home, which resulted in the death of a 70-year-old oupa.
Moments before her boyfriend, Angelo Klein, 38, appeared in court for the house robbery and murder of Peter Goliath Senior, Jolene Bailey approached the Daily Voice to talk about the “ skinner stories” which have surfaced since her berk’s arrest.
Klein was nabbed on Thursday by Manenberg police for his alleged involvement in the attack on Peter and his wife, Elizabeth, 66, at their Orion Street home a week earlier.
The couple was tied up and beaten after the skelms forced a window open to gain access.
The oupa, who suffered from epilepsy, died defending his wife, who survived the ordeal by playing dead.
The skelms made off with
cellphones, a flat-screen TV and two watches, which police later recovered.
Jolene, who works as a domestic worker, says as the rumours spread over the past week, she and her three children have been harassed by angry neighbours who believe she was involved.
“I clean a house in Aquarius Street and not Orion Street, but people are saying I am the mastermind in that robbery,” the mom says.
I have twin girls, aged 13, who are not Angelo’s children. We are together for 10 years now and he is an Americans gangster, but he doesn’t worry with the gangsters.
“We have a four-year-old daughter, Zea. Our baby boy, Steven Angelo Junior, died a few months ago.”
Jolene says she noticed Angelo was “acting funny” last week, but claims she did not have any knowledge about the
robbery and murder until he was arrested.
“I didn’t know anything and he was arrested at his mother’s house in Irvine Street, but everyone is pointing a finger at me and I am worried that the people in Surrey Estate won’t trust me to clean their houses,” she says.
“I went to a masjid there and they helped me convert to Islam and my new name is Jasmine.
“I have children to look after and the people are making things bad for me with their skinner stories. I just want to clear my name.”
Police confirm the woman has not been charged.
Klein appeared before Magistrate Keith le Keur on Monday where his case was postponed to 10 September for a bail information hearing.
He was sent to Pollsmoor Prison.
