THREE suspects who hijacked a delivery vehicle in Browns Farm, Philippi, met their fate after they were shot dead following.

Police spokesperson Colonel Andrè Traut said that detectives attached to the Provincial Serious and Violent Crime unit are probing the triple moord that happened in Browns, Farm Phillippi, last week.

Traut reported: “According to reports, two men were travelling in a light delivery vehicle in Nyanga earlier today, Thursday, 26 June 2025, when they were hijacked at gunpoint by unknown suspects. The suspects forced the victims into the back of the vehicle and drove off.

“As the vehicle approached the intersection of Sheffield and Moonwood Roads, it came under gunfire from unknown assailants.

“The shooting resulted in the deaths of three of the alleged hijackers. Their identities and ages are yet to be confirmed.”

He added that the motive for the incident is unclear and the detectives are exploring all possible scenarios.

Nyanga Community Policing Forum (CPF) Chairperson Dumisani Qwebe told the Daily Voice that the vehicle was at a standstill while the hijackers were talking with each other and two people came from nearby shacks and fired shots.

Qwebe said: “The driver of the vehicle and passenger were not harmed in the incident. It might not be a strange issue that the hijackers were shot, maybe those who shot them were part of the hijacking, but maybe they did not agree in terms of the deal.

“It could have been an issue of who should get more shares over the other one. It is surprising that the hijacked people were unharmed but there could have been a disagreement between the hijackers.”
