An alleged member of the Laughing Boys gang was shot and killed yesterday afternoon after being shot in Hanover Park and ran towards the busy Jakes Gerwel Drive where collapsed in the road.

Residents in Hanover Park say they heard multiple gunshots going off around 2pm when a man by the nickname of "Boggel" who is a member of the Laughing Boys was shot in Hanover Park and managed to run to the main road where he died.

Allegedly the deceased was not alone however the other people who was with him managed to run away and escape.

A reliable source of the Daily Voice who wants to protect the identity of the source and family said the shooting is gang related and is an internal fight between the Laughing Boys.

The source says: “There has been a flare up of gun violence recently. They shoot and stop, shoot and stop the whole time but this whole week there has been random shooting.

"This incident of the murder of this Laughing Boy is going to cause retaliation, Laughing Boys vs Laughing Boys just like the other gangs.

"The shots relating to this incident went off around 2pm but before that there were a lot of gunshots going off prior. The deceased was not alone, there was other people who were shot with him but they managed to run away and the deceased was the only one who died.

"They won’t go to Hanover Park Day Hospital or Heideveld Day Hospital because they know the enemy will follow them so they will go private and pay in cash to remove a bullet.”

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed the incident and said that a murder case was registered for further investigation.

Twigg reports: "Philippi police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a shooting incident in which a 40 year old male was shot and fatally wound.

"According to reports the victim and his friends were standing along Jakes Gerwel Drive in Newfields on Wednesday afternoon, 23 April 2025, when they were approached by a suspect who opened fire on them.

"The victim ran for cover but sustained a gunshot wound to his chest and collapsed in the road. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel, while his friends escaped unharmed. The suspect fled the scene and is yet to be arrested."
