ONE person sustained serious injuries while seven other passengers suffered minor injuries when a minibus taxi collided with a Golden Arrow bus yesterday morning.
The incident took place in Belhar in the early hours on the corner of Erica Drive and Chestnut Way.
Passengers in the taxi were injured but no injuries were reported to the passengers transported by the bus.
Police spokesperson Anelisiwe Manyana referred enquiries to the City of Cape Town, saying that Law Enforcement officials attended to the crime scene.
It was claimed on social media groups that the taxi overturned due to the impact of the collision, however the City of Cape Town Traffic Services spokesperson, Maxine Bezuidenhout, said that it is not true.
Bezuidenhout reports: “The Traffic Service can confirm the incident; however, the officer on scene advised that the taxi did not overturn. There were no injuries reported in the bus. In the minibus taxi, seven persons sustained minor injuries, while one person was seriously injured.”
Video footage shows the medical services on scene as they are attending to those who are injured.
Mense took to social media bashing the taxi industry saying that they are to blame for the accidents this week as they are always involved.
This after a Toyota Quantum transporting school learners caused a multi-vehicle pile-up at the intersection of Spine Road and Merrydale Road on Tuesday morning.
One person commented: “Taxis must be disqualified from the roads. Innocent people and children are losing their [lives] because of [their] negligence.”
Another person commented, “Every accident this week involved a taxi or bus. Hope everyone is OK.”
The spokesperson for the Golden Arrow Bus Services said that they are unable to respond by deadline as he is out of the office.
