A drummie from Blue Downs is looking forward to her big shot as part of a squad of 26 girls set to compete at this year’s 9-19 July National Championship in Klerksdorp.
Peyton Schoeman, 15, attends Soneike High School and is part of the Soneike High Majorettes. The school is proud members of The Federation of Dance, Drill, Cheerleading and Majorette Sport South Africa.
This is the school’s fourth year competing and comprises of hardworking girls aged between 14 and 19 years who practice up to 18 hours per week, including Saturdays and holidays.
For Peyton, from Malibu Village, being part of the drummies is where her heart lies as she enjoys dancing and she joined the team two years ago.
The talented meisie says: “I perform for my school’s drummie Majorettes team. I am very excited and committed to the team."
However, for her to join the team in Klerksdorp in July, each player is in need of around R8 000.
Each athlete needs to pay R600 for the tracksuit, R6500 to cover the costs involved to compete at nationals, R500 for boots and R130 for a printed t-shirt.
Mom Chriszelda said that her daughter is in need of R7 000 and is appealing for any kind of assistance.
She says that to help raise funds she has been having fundraisers such as selling boerewors.
Chriszelda says: “The money needs to be paid in by the end of May. We would be grateful for any help and assistance. The money can be paid into the schools accounts but I would also need a notification.”
If anyone would like to help get Peyton to the nationals, a deposit can be paid directly into the school’s bank account with the reference ‘National-Team Soneike’ with her name.
Donations can be paid into First National Bank, Account number: 62386634698. Or you can pop Chriszelda a message on 082 780 0154 for proof of payment.
