CAPE mense woke to the horror discovery of two dead bodies yesterday - a man in Belhar and a pappe baba in Khayelitsha.
The lifeless body of a baby was discovered inside a vullisdrom in iLitha Park in Khayelitsha.
Police spokesperson Anelisiwe Manyana said: “Lingelethu West police opened an inquest docket for further investigation following the discovery of the body of a baby on Thursday 22 May 2025 in Mthawelanga Street, iLitha Park.
According to reports police members attended to a complaint and upon arrival at the crime scene they found the body of a baby inside a bin.
A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
Manyana adds: “We appeal to anyone who may information regarding this incident to please contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111."
In a separate incident earlier in the day, people on their way to work discovered a suspected murder victim at 6am and the deceased is believed to be from Delft.
Cops arrived on the scene at 8am and it is alleged that the man was stabbed to death.
Police spokesperson Captain F.C Van Wyk confirmed the incident and said that the circumstances surrounding this incident are still under investigation.
Van Wyk reports: “Belhar police registered a murder following the discovery of the body of a 25-year-old man on 22 May 2025 at about 7.20am at the corner of Nantes and De Mist, Belhar.
"The motive for this incident is yet to be established. The unknown suspect/s fled the scene and are yet to be arrested.”
According to Belhar Community Police Forum deputy public relations officer Rose Abrahams, people from Delft often make the long walk through Belhar to go to work.
Abrahams says: “We do not know the circumstances surrounding the deceased. The area is not a hotspot for dumping bodies and there were no gunshots in the area as it is relatively quiet. Police are investigating."
