GUN violence is continuing to riddle Bishop Lavis after multiple shots were fired on Tuesday evening which resulted in one man being shot and killed.
Cop say the man was seated inside a white Ford Fiesta in Helot Road when he came under attack.
It is alleged in a neighbourhood crime group that the deceased is the father of the leader of the Nike Boys gang and mense have been urged to stay safe, with some fearing retaliation attacks.
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed the case and said that Bishop Lavis police are investigating a case of murder.
Van Wyk reports: “Circumstances surrounding a shooting incident on 6 May at 7.07pm at Helot Road, Bishop Lavis where an adult male was shot and fatally wounded are under investigation.
"According to reports SAPS members on duty were doing patrols in the Bishop Lavis area when they were approached by a member of the community who informed them about the shooting incident at the mentioned address.
"They immediately went to the address and found the victim in the vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds to his body. He was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. A murder case was registered for investigation.”
Chairperson of the Bishop Lavis Community Policing Forum Amanda Davids said she cannot confirm if the shooting is gang related, but asked mense to come forward with information that could lead to the arrest of the killers.
She says: “The Bishop Lavis CPF is saddened by the ongoing violence. We had two fatal shootings yesterday, one in K North, Kalksteenfontein and one in Bishop Lavis. I cannot speak on the gang affiliation, but I can speak to the traumatic effect this has on our community.
"I want to plead with the community to come forward with any relevant information and work with SAPS to bring the perpetrators to book. We had a few incidents where the community stoned SAPS to stop them from doing their duty. This is unacceptable and cannot happen.
"We want to share our sincere condolences with the families who lost loved ones due to these shootings and will keep them in prayer."
