Suspected members of a crowbar gang have been caught red-handed after a police chase in Observatory.
Cops believe the men may also be linked to other house robberies in the area.
The drama unfolded on Sunday along Station Road in Observatory when cops noticed five men travelling in a white Toyota Avanza.
Police began a chase when the men started acting suspicious.
The chase ended in Klipfontein Road in Athlone, where the suspects attempted to flee on foot after jumping out of the vehicle. But they were soon apprehended.
Cops found a flat screen TV, a laptop, computer accessories, electrical equipment, a backpack and drums inside the vehicle.
The men are expected to make their first appearance in court today on charges of burglary, possession of stolen property, reckless and negligent driving and possession of dangerous weapons.
Woodstock Police Station spokesperson, Sergeant Hilton Malila, says the men are believed to be linked to other house breaking cases in the area: “All the men were arrested and will appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
“Investigation [into] where the items were stolen from continues.
“The suspects were linked to a burglary in Willow Road, Observatory where they forced open a sliding door and took all the items.
“The officers were commended for their vigilance in bringing offenders to book.”
