Police are investigating a murder case after the body of a 50-year-old man with head injuries was discovered yesterday morning on an open field in Rocklands, Mitchells Plain near Kapteinsklip train station.
The man was discovered by a member of the Neighbourhood Watch who was on patrol yesterday morning around 7am.
Police say the motive for the murder is gang-related and, according to a source, the deceased was recently released from prison.
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said that the circumstances surrounding the death of the man whose body was found off Typhoon Street, Rocklands near Kapteinsklip station are under investigation.
Van Wyk reports: “Mitchells Plain police attended to a complaint at the mentioned address where they found the body with head injuries.
"A murder case was opened for investigation. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel.
"A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death. The motive is believed to be gang related.”
According to a resident, who does not want to be named to protect her identity, there was shooting in the area last night.
She explains: “This is the first time that a body was found in that area and the body was found open, not hidden or covered. We heard the gunshots go off last night at different times after 10pm and again after 12am.
"That person was shot last night and the body was discovered this morning.
"The justice system is failing us because this man was just recently released from prison and more other gangsters were released, so there is going to be retaliation.”
