A dom skelm saw his gat after police found him hiding in a wheelie bin after he had just robbed a liquor store in Kraaifontein on Friday.
Avenue Blue Bottle Liquors in Horack Street, Peerless Park, was a scene of laughter after the man was caught with four beers in his possession hiding in the vullisdrom near the store.
According to a customer, three men entered the store shortly after midday, armed with pepper spray which they used when they robbed the cashier.
“There were a few customers in the store when the robber, with his pepper spray, robbed the one cashier. They were three guys, but the pepper spray guy was the groot skelm,” the customer explains.
He says chaos ensued when the men were blocked by customers as they tried to flee and the man’s accomplices abandoned him.
“He started panicking that he could not get away and started throwing bottles of alcohol around.
“The place reeked of liquor and the way was open for him.
“However, as he ran, a man in a wheelchair struck him with a taser. He fell but jumped up quickly and ran into a yard not far from the liquor store,” the customer says.
Cops, with the help of residents who saw him fleeing, caught him in the bin.
Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, says: “This office can confirm that one suspect was arrested for business robbery, members found in his possession an undisclosed amount of cash robbed at a liquor store in Horack Street in Peerless Park, Kraaifontein.”
