BONTEHEUWEL has been rocked by the murder of yet another woman, who was stabbed to death by someone who is known to her.
Louis van Sensie was stabbed when she tried to stop a fight between her husband and the suspect on Loganberry Street at around 12.30am on Sunday morning.
It comes less than a week after Bonteheuwel activist Shireena Birch was allegedly stabbed to death on 3 February 2026 by her husband Riedewaan Birch during a domestic dispute.
It is reported that the suspect arrived at Van Sensie’s house looking for his friend.
When her husband said the chommie was asleep and that he would not wake, the suspect became angry and allegedly attacked her husband with a knife.
In an attempt to stop the fight, Louis was said to be stabbed and injured and declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed that a 25-year-old man has been arrested and is under police guard while receiving treatment at a medical facility.
Van Wyk reported: “On Sunday, 8 February, at about 12.30am, Bishop Lavis SAPS members attended an incident at a premises in Loganberry Street, Bonteheuwel, where a 58-year-old woman was stabbed and injured.
“According to reports, the suspect came to the deceased’s house as mentioned, looking for a friend. The deceased’s husband informed the suspect that his friend is asleep and that he is not going to wake him. The suspect got angry and he attacked the husband with a knife. The deceased’s husband then also took a knife and retaliated.
“The deceased then tried to stop the fight; however, the suspect stabbed her in her shoulder. Both the suspect and the deceased were taken to hospital; however, the woman was declared deceased on arrival.
“The circumstances surrounding the incident seem to be an argument [disagreement] between the parties.
“The 25-year-old suspect was arrested and is under police guard, receiving medical treatment.”
When the Daily Voice arrived at Van Sensie’s home, we were informed by a family member that they were too busy with arrangements for her janazah to speak at this time.
Ward councillor Angus McKenzie said of the suspect: “He is a known gangster from the very same street where Louis lived. He is expected to make his first court appearance, hopefully on Tuesday.”
He added: "Our deepest condolences go to Louis’s family and loved ones. We will stand with them and support them through this incredibly painful and difficult time.
"It is completely unacceptable that, after losing Shireena Birch to gender based violence less than a week ago, our community is once again mourning the loss of another woman, Louis."
