THE grieving wife of Nathan Plato, a tow truck driver and father of five who was gunned down on Monday in Eerste River, says that the family is struggling to come to terms with his passing.

Nathan, 35 and affectionately known as Spice, was shot and killed inside his tow truck on Monday evening around 6pm in Heather Park, Forest Drive, where he was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel.

Kleinvlei police registered a murder case for investigation as the unknown suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested.

Wife Meagan said that she is not sure why anyone would want to hurt her husband, as he was a caring person and was well-loved in the community.

The grieving wife explained: “I can’t think of why anyone would want to kill him in that manner. The matter is still under investigation.

“At the time of the incident, I was at my mother’s house in Mitchells Plain. One of his friends phoned me to tell me the news.

“I could not believe it, it felt like my legs gave way from under me because before that we were still on the phone having a discussion about the children.

“He loved his children and would go out of his way for them, he would even lay his life on the line for them.

“In this life there is a lot of jealousy because he was very helpful... Everyone has their flaws but when it comes to people, Nathan always gave his best.

“We really lost a legend because of the impact he had on people’s lives.

“It is not going very well, our twins who are 16 years old are not handling the passing of their dad very great.

“I am struggling to get the one child to eat since Monday and two other daughters are in counselling.

“It is tough and heavy to deal with. I told my children that we should take it one day at a time.”

Nathan leaves behind his wife and five daughters aged 16 (twins), 10, 8 and five.
