AN ALLEGED Hard Livings gang member is the latest victim of the gun violence plaguing the streets of Mitchells Plain.

The 46-year-old man, known only as ‘Bollie’, was shot multiple times in Moloto Street around 7am and died while sitting in the passenger seat of a maroon Opel Kadett.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi confirmed that the circumstances surrounding this incident are still under investigation.

Swartbooi reported: “Mitchells Plain police responded to a complaint on Tuesday 7 October 2025. Upon their arrival in Molopo Street in Portlands, at about 7am, they found the body of a man, seated in a motor vehicle, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

“The motive for this attack is believed to be gang-related. Mitchells Plain police are investigating a murder.”

Chairperson of the Mitchells Plain Community Police Forum, Norman Jantjies, said that there has been another flare up in gang-related shootings in the last week following a relative lull after the visit by the Acting Minister of Police Firoz Cachalia last month.

Jantjies told the Daily Voice: “The deceased was seated in his car outside of his house in Molopo Street when he was shot multiple times, they found about 10 bullets. According to the community he is a member of the Hard Livings groupings in the area.

“There is always a chance of retaliation because we also do not know what triggered the shooting. Portlands have been a relatively gang-free area over the years, but it is clear now that things have changed over recent months.

“We are always scared that innocent people could be injured or killed. We ask people to continue to be vigilant and not let their inquisitive nature put them in the line of fire, especially the children. If they notice any suspicious activity, report it to the police.

“Since the minister was here, we initially saw a dip in crime levels, but over the past seven days we saw it increase again.

“We have seen an increased level of visibility, however it does not look like it is effective as yet.

“We ask police to continue being visible and to make sure a proper investigation is done so that we have successful convictions in court hearings and get hold of the firearms.”Police are appealing to anyone with information to please call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
