Homeless man found with head wounds outside Grand Parade Texies

THE body of a homeless man was found on Monday morning in the Cape Town CBD in front of a popular fish and chips shop at the Grand Parade.

Police responded to the scene and found the body of a young man, believed to be in his 20s, covered with blankets and head wounds lying in front of Texies Fish and Chips and fresh fish market on Plein Street.

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed that a murder docket is under investigation however the circumstances surrounding this incident is unknown.

Van Wyk reported: “This office can confirm that on Monday 2025-09-29 at 05:30 Cape Town Central SAPS members received a complaint of a body laying outside a fast-food outlet, in Plein Street, Cape Town.

"On their arrival at the scene, they found the body of an unidentified male believed to be in his twenties lying covered with blankets with head wounds."

Councillor Ian McMahon said the death was the second of a homeless man found in theCBD in days, after another body was found in Bree Street last Wednesday.

He told the Daily Voice: “There is always a concern when dead bodies are found. The body found this morning and the body found last week seem to be from the unhoused community and that is a concern. 

"It is a concern and it happens a few times a year.”
